The Bad Boy Bargain Kendra C Highley Books

This is an enjoyable YA romance which I read in one sitting. The main characters were well written and I felt such a connection that I wanted them to have their happily ever after, and then the supporting characters were also well rounded and enjoyable.
**SPOILERS**
The story is about Faith, who has been cheated on and dumped by her boyfriend, which doesn’t bother her much (hurtful in the moment but not much lost past that) but as happens nowadays he goes out to destroy her on social media. When I was reading some other reviews of this book I was kind of expecting her to be overly sensitive and coming up with the stupid plan of “revenge” that instead ruins her reputation (as girls are always punished much more for being sexual active then boys) but instead I found it to be a believable situation. With her ex spreading stories about her she is bombarded with social media messages, including horrid photos from the ex’s friends on the football team. I thought Faith needing to get back at the ex to be completely understandable, it wasn’t about revenge for cheating or anything it was to turn his abuse back on himself (i.e. I didn’t have sex with you because of you and not because of me) and try and stop the barrage of abuse. Now would it have been better that everyone was a little more mature, of course, but this is high school….
On the other side of this equation is Kyle, the resident school bad boy who turns out to not be that bad at all. Instead he was a bullied middle school kid who turned his reputation around (with the help of a growth spurt before high school) but behaving sullen and uncaring when in fact he is a smart and sensitive soul. He decides to help Faith out but also needs to be careful to keep his secret persona a secret. As the onion that is Kyle is slowly peeled back he’s the one I really wanted to shake to wake him up! Yes I understood what he was doing but his confidence was so shaken and he never dealt with his feelings that his self-esteem is so degraded he can’t see how far he has come from middle school.
I did think the timeline was a little off as they fell in love very quickly and jumped into bed together within a few weeks BUT the reading of the story doesn’t feel that fast, in fact I was surprised when I was reminded of how little time they had been together and I think this is a talent of the writer as they felt like fully rounded characters with a fully mature relationship.

The Bad Boy Bargain Kendra C Highley Books Reviews

Wow, does this book remind me of high school! Drama, drama, drama and mostly of your own own making.

Girl wants to break up with boy but not sure how, he cheats, she dumps him, he spreads rumors to save face making girls life hell. Then girl plans revenge but it ends up being sweeter than she could have ever imagined.

Loved the characters and their crazy problems. Every girl needs a guy who makes them feel like they matter and our book hero definitely comes through in the end.
I enjoyed reading this book, I didn’t find the plot overwhelming or surprising (no dramatic plot twists or curve-balls) but I thought it was overall well written. I did read the book quite quickly and at times didn’t want to put it down. There were a couple of steamy scenes between Faith and Kyle that I loved, but mostly it was just sweet swoon-worthy romance. I did find the timeline of the book slightly annoying though, it seemed like things progressed between Faith and Kyle too quickly – they seemed madly in love and ready to commit everything to each other after and then I found out it had only been one week in the book. Which seemed unrealistic. But the characters themselves had depth and I could definitely relate to Kyle’s experiences of bullying in high school and how much it can affect you. I’d recommend reading if you want something easy and romantic.
After being disappointed by The Boyfriend Bet, this was a fantastic read.

I believed in Kyle and Faith relationship from day one. And I also fell in love with Kyle and his family right away. His grandpa had some of the best lines, then again I'm a sucker for awesome grandparents.

I think the story was well written and the plot flowed well from one chapter to the next despite some of the redundant issues that came up for Kyle.

Faith was a really good person. I never felt angry with her or like she deserved more or less. From the moment she met Kyle I wanted her to be with him. She has such passion and desire for her dance and it was crushing when she didn't get into NYU but I actually admire that the author didn't go for the easy happy out.

It's nice to see some real world lessons and this one especially. I feel like generation entitled could take home the reality that sometimes you can be amazing at something you do, but that doesn't mean everyone will award you for it.

This book was amazing and I loved every part. Five stars!
Favorite Quote

Hope—an angry, hard, shining thing—crashed around her chest.

This one was a quick, cute read. Bad boy meets popular girl, kisses ensue and they go from fake relationship to real relationship.

Except…..Kyle isn’t really a bad boy. He was shy, and super awkward when it came to females. And while he did excel in the sports department he was also an excellent businessman. In short, he was a normal teenager. He just had really good acting skills that he employed to keep everyone from knowing him. And I dug that. Everyone pretends to be someone they are not in high school so I could totally relate to him in that aspect. You could tell he thought about the things that Faith told him and he wasn’t just interested in her for her looks. Shocking for a hormonal teenager I know. Just another thing that I liked about him.

Faith was a bit of an conundrum for me. She wasn’t at all what I expected either. And I don’t know if that’s a good thing. I felt she may have been a bit too shallow for me. She cared a bit too much about what people thought of her. Then again, I never grew up in the digital age so I’m not familiar with having so many people have instant access to me all the time. But I still felt she was trying a bit too hard for my tastes.

I don’t know if I’ll read anymore in this series just yet cause this is a series I have to be in the mood for.
